Gematria is an ancient system of assigning numerical values to words, making it possible to uncover hidden meanings in Jewish religious texts. It is based on the numerical value of the Hebrew letters and has been used for centuries to study and interpret the Bible.
The gematria system assigns a numerical value to each letter of the alphabet. The first nine letters correspond to 1 through 9 and then each further letter adds another 10 to their value - so the tenth letter is 10, while the twentieth letter is 200. For instance, a standard three-letter word like אָדָם (Adam) has a value of 42 (1 + 4 + 37).
